The Corporation is working with the Department of Labor to provide young people participating in WIA summer youth activities under ARRA, and adults involved in the Title 1-B Adult and Dislocation Worker Program, the opportunity to co-enroll in an AmeriCorps program. The program must meet AmeriCorps requirements for community need and public service.
Through the partnership, the Corporation would complement WIA Recovery program dollars with an education award. Many commissions have expressed a desire to increase their partnerships with Workforce Investment Boards in this way. We are hoping that this small opportunity will grow into a larger partnership in the future.
To move forward, we need State Commissions to provide a list of your current AmeriCorps grantees that both received Recovery WIA funds for summer youth program and/or adult and dislocated worker program funds and that you would feel comfortable recommending as AmeriCorps programs. Please e-mail list of programs to Jason Greer by Friday, June 5, COB. We will provide this list to the Department of Labor Monday, June 8. The Corporation will them work with the Department of Labor and local DOL WIA pass through entities to enlist their support and respond to concerns they may have regarding the proposed partnership. Please note, we are not able to provide program funds for this partnership but only the education awards.
Meanwhile, please do not delay compiling your list. If you have questions while doing so, contact Jason Greer at jgreer@cns.gov.
