VISTA members Sylvia Woodworth and her husband Douglas were assigned to the Birch River School, which had about 30 nursery-age children. The West Virginia school, started in 1970 under the direction of Douglas, became a nonprofit, Birch River Pathways, funded by a church in Douglas’ hometown of Waynesboro, Virginia. |
