In November 1978, VISTA member Jose Martinez, 65, coordinated the building of the solar greenhouse, which was attached to the office of Colorado Migrant Council in Alamosa. The council sponsored the greenhouse, as well as the solar food driers and collectors. Here, Jose checks bananas that are drying in a solar food dryer. A retired U.S. Postal Service supervisor, Jose is a widower and the father of eight children, all of whom are college graduates. |
