Dear Colleagues:

Last Friday the full House passed H.R. 3293, the Fiscal Year 2010 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill, by a 264-153 vote.

The funding level for the Corporation and its programs remained unchanged from the Committee-passed bill. That amount is $1.059 billion, which is a $169 million increase over the current fiscal year, but $90 million less than the President’s request.

The House mark is a strong start in a tough budget year. Wehope the Senate will fully fund the President’s request to enable us to move forward on implementing the initiatives in the Serve America Act. The Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, HHS, Education and Related Agencies is holding a markup next Tuesday, July 28, and a full Appropriations Committee markup is expected on Thursday, July 30.
