AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism, awarded nearly $5 million to five AmeriCorps Seniors grantee organizations in Illinois, West Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee to address economic opportunity and build pathways to employment for older adults. 

  • National Council on Aging, Inc.
    Hanover, Brooke, Ohio, and Marshall Counties, W. Va.
    Funds awarded: $1,610,047
    The National Council on Aging, Inc. proposes to have 24 AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers in the northern panhandle of West Virginia (Hancock, Brooke, Ohio and Marshall counties). The primary focus area of this project is Economic Opportunity and secondary focus area of Healthy Futures. At the end of the three-year grant, National Council on Aging will assist 72 AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers being placed into employment. The AmeriCorps federal investment of $552,192 will be supplemented by $61,355.

  • Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission, Inc.
    Boone, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Owen, and Pendleton Counties, Ky.
    Funds awarded: $1,553,468
    The Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission, Inc. proposes to have 150 AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers in Boone, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Owen, and Pendleton Counties in Kentucky. The primary focus area of this project is Economic Opportunity. At the end of the three-year grant, Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission, Inc. will assist 150 AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers being placed into employment. The AmeriCorps federal investment of $1,553,468 will be supplemented by $294,840.

  • Porter-Leath Tennessee
    Memphis, Tenn.
    Funds awarded: $999,000
    Porter-Leath proposes to have 25 AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers in the Memphis metropolitan area. The primary focus area of this project is to provide training and certification to more older adults into permanent employment in an education career and secondary focus area of Education, where the volunteers will gain valuable experience in early childhood education supporting child and family engagement. At the end of the three year grant, Porter-Leath will assist 25 AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers being placed into employment. The AmeriCorps federal investment of $333,000 will be supplemented by $33,347 of non-federal resources which includes private and in-kind support.

  • The HAP Foundation
    Knox, Macon, Peoria, Rock Island, and Sangamon Counties, Ill.
    Funds awarded: $332,342
    The HAP Foundation proposes to have 75 AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers in Knox, Macon, Peoria, Rock Island, and Sangamon Counties of Illinois. The primary focus area of this project is Healthy Futures. At the end of the three-year grant, The HAP Foundation will assist 50 AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers being placed into employment. The AmeriCorps federal investment of $332,342 will be supplemented by $36,931.

  • The University of Chicago
    Chicago and Harvey, Ill.
    Funds awarded: $499,999
    The University of Chicago proposes to have 18 AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers in Chicago and Harvey, Illinois. The primary focus area of this project is Healthy Futures and secondary focus area of access to care. At the end of the three-year grant, the University of Chicago will assist 18 AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers being placed into employment. The AmeriCorps federal investment of $499,999 will be supplemented by $280,952.
