The San Pasqual Band of Indians is applying for an AmeriCorps Planning grant. At least 1,000 people on the reservation are living in poverty. Many of these individuals lack job-related skills and have not graduated from high school. With this grant, the tribe's will address the continuing problems of unemployment, the low academic achievement of the tribe's youth, ways of reducing the energy efficiency of the tribe's homes, and the need to train more individuals in fire prevention.
