Russell Lopez

Chief, Communications and Marketing
Russell Lopez leads AmeriCorps communications and comes to the agency from the US Patent and Trademark Office where he served as the chief communications officer. During his time at USTPO, Lopez was responsible for the development and implementation of strategic communications in coordination with the US Department of Commerce and the White House. He supported and advised the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO.
Prior to joining USPTO, Lopez served as communications director for the California State Lottery, appointed by Governor Jerry Brown. He began his 18 years of public service as a senior deputy press secretary for Governor Gray Davis. Lopez then worked with the offices of state senators who chaired Public Safety, Health and Human Services and Education committees as a communications director. Previously he served as the communications director for the Office of the State Controller. Before his career as a public servant, Lopez worked for a decade as an anchor and reporter for several California news stations. Lopez earned his bachelor's degree in journalism from University of Missouri-Columbia.
